Quality Polaroid Sunglasses is to sunglasses
As
High Definition is to regular TV
“Polaroid” is a brand name, and should not be used generically.
It is useful to use the metaphor of window blinds to visualize how light waves are affected during passage through a polarizing filter.
It is because light is horizontally polarized as it is reflected off of a horizontal surface (water, snow, sand, windshields, etc) that polarizing sunglasses can block this glare by acting as a selective filter.

The resultant colors appear much more saturated, truer and purer. Other outdoor activities besides driving and fishing, including bird watching, golf, target-shooting, and the like, can be enhanced and more fully enjoyed with polarizing sunglasses.Polarized lenses are uniform density: that is, they are not subject to variations in absorption related to prescription strength or type. And the color of polarizing lenses is significantly less susceptible to fading or color change, unlike tinted lenses. Polarized lenses also absorb virtually all UV radiation. |
| According to Jerry Bedingfield, Group Manager for Polaroid in the Americas, avid skiers and snowboarders find the flat light myth to be just that, while wearing polarized sunglasses or goggles they do not experience flat light, furthermore their ability to recognize obstacles and the terrain changes are enhanced. All skiers and Snowboarders are most concerned with ice. Polarizing sunglasses will dramatically reduce reflective light, thereby making the ice “blacker,” increasing contrast with non-ice areas, and enabling the skier’s recognition and avoidance to be significantly enhanced. | ![]() |
